Kensington Apartment

In a close collaboration with the client and main contractor, we were appointed to help sensitively restore a triplex apartment located within a conservation area on a quiet street in West London. The home sits in a special location, full of charm and character, just a stone’s throw from High Street Kensington.

The client, an artist and interior designer, brought AB.Co on board to help curate the interior design and formalise it into a detailed drawing pack, enabling the main contractor to build it out with a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The design was centred around her own artworks and collected pieces of furniture, which feature throughout the home. We also managed a successful planning application for alterations requiring approval from the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

The kitchen is completely bespoke, designed and detailed in closely with the client, and features a built-in banquette bench. Both the kitchen and seating were carefully crafted to accommodate an antique period dining table already owned by the client. This thoughtful integration of old and new elements brings a timeless quality to the period property.

The internal stair winds around an impressive double-height space, capped by a restored stained-glass roof lantern. A glimpse of the lantern is revealed upon entry, drawing the eye upwards and setting the tone for the home. As a key feature of the original property, it was carefully restored to bring light, colour and a sense of heritage back into the heart of the apartment.

Another key aspect of the project was the restoration of existing joinery where appropriate, such as the original bookcase in the study. These pieces were carefully refurbished and finished in deep, rich tones to complement the overall colour palette and tie in with the new bespoke joinery elements - including the wardrobes and headboards in the top-floor bedrooms. Throughout the apartment, both restored and newly crafted joinery sit comfortably alongside the client’s collection of antique furniture, creating a layered and timeless interior.
